This was actually one of my remote goals, what am I going to strive for now?

When I got this question, I had to research Avatar’s chakra system (naturally— I don’t have that episode on tap), and I formulated a few theories.

What happens when somebody unblocks their thought chakra? That chakra deals with pure cosmic energy— perhaps it allows energybending. We know that energybending  involved bending your own energy and being unbendable yourself. Chakras are all about “bending” (for lack of a better world) your view of yourself and the world. Furthermore, if you unblocked your thought chakra, you would become very difficult to corrupt, as you have given up all of your earthly attachments. It also makes sense that a bending art that requires unlocking the thought chakra would die out once an easier, more physical alternative came along. Aang was able to energybend because he was the Avatar, and the Avatar can get away with stuff like that.

By this theory, Amon became an energybender because he unblocked all of his chakras. (The Guru would also be an energybender, and I don’t find that hard to buy.) This implies two things: One, that the chakras are apparently free of values judgements and concepts of good and evil (Amon isn’t a good person no matter how you slice it), and two, that Amon has no earthly ties left. This makes sense— he lost his family, he lost his identity, he lost his future (people don’t want to hire the heavily scarred guy). In other words, he can’t be stopped by any earthly means, and will keep fighting for his cause no matter what. That sounds like fun!

Two problems with this: Amon could be lying, and a political movement is a kind of attachment. You could argue that Amon’s personal motives are all spiritual, but that’s a bit of a stretch.

Oh well, wait and see, but this is going into my theory collection.

I apparently have a thing for older guys in the Avatarverse! Or so I’m assuming, we don’t really know Amon’s age (if he’s a teenager I’m gonna laugh so hard)
